Picnic 2011

If you have adopted, are in the process or thinking about adopting from Ethiopia, Come join us!

Pack a lunch, bring your bathing suits and towels. Spend the day at the beach with other Ethiopian adoptive families.

Just 5 days and counting!

We went out and got some balloons and a few things for the kids to play with: We have bubbles, frisbees, chalk and all types of balls. Plus the playground is right for those who like climbing and sliding.

We are getting very excited about the picnic. The weather is expected to hold, with no rain and temperatures in the upper 80s. So having the beach so close will be great!

Hope most of you can make it!

Countdown to the picnic!

Can you believe it’s less than two weeks away?

We rented a huge pavilion, so we will be safe even if it rains! But let’s hope for a gorgeous June day.

Every family should bring their own lunch and drinks. The pavilion has a grill if you want to BBQ. The park also has a snack bar, but it’s not very close to our spot. Feel free to bring a dessert to share.

The pavilion is right next to a playground and a large ball field.  So don’t forget to pack a ball, a kite, Frisbee or other sports equipment.  Bring a bathing suit and a towel and head to the picnic area beach, which is right around the corner.

There is a $5 charge ($6 for non MD residents) per person to get in the park, but there is no charge for children in car safety or booster seats.  Make sure to tell the person at the gate that you are here for the “Touch of Ethiopia on the Chesapeake Picnic” so they can direct you to the Raccoon Pavilion.  Please check the Sandy Point State Park link for more information about directions, rules and admission fees to the park.  http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/Southern/sandypoint.asp

The picnic will be at Sandy Point State Park. We have rented the Raccoon Pavilion, which is near the beach and has its own playground.

wow!  what a great weather prediction we have for your event on saturday — i am thrilled!  bring your beach umbrellas for sure as this will really feel like a hot day on the beach!  i have not gotten out to the park this week yet but still intend to tomorrow morning.  sorry just having a crazy week.  but, it is pretty simply and i am not really sure that me going out there is actually going to make it any easier.

here’s what you do.  route 50 towards annapolis from which ever way you are coming from.  it is the last exit on the western shore before the bay bridge.  enter via the gatehouse and there is a per person fee to enter of $5- for maryland residents and $6- for non-maryland residents and children in carseats and boosters are free.  after you have passed through the gatehouse continue straight to the SOUTH beach area — here is a link to the park map–  http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/sandypointmap.html

aim to park in the area near the food + concessions and enter the beach just to the left and head to the yellow circle area this is where i am hoping to get a large area for us.  please bring everything your family needs for the time you will be with us.  as you can see from the map there is alot of fun thing to do at the park and you can surely enjoy yourself for a whole day.  if you need help the day of call me at 410-212-4616.

week count-down!

ok, yes i missed it a bit……….so really this is the 6 days count-down!  all i can think about these days is how much rain we have gotten and i guess i surely should not be focusing on this but i have just watched a whole weekend of events be rained out this weekend so my fingers and toes are already crossed for saturday!

saturday, 27 june 2009 @ sandy point state beach in annapolis, maryland for a beach day!  i will run over to the park this week and narrow down were exactly on the beach we will gather so you can park close to that area.  there are plenty of restrooms near this beach and food concessions and i think i little shop in case you forgot stuff but i will check that out too.  everytime we go we forget our kites but i have them packed already.  the water – which is the chesapeake bay is actually perfect right now with no jellyfish and really no waves to speak of so equally great for little ones to splash in but think they are in the water!

can’t wait to see everyone!

no doubt that after we have had now what a MONTH of rain everyday i am thinking we are going to have a beautiful sunny day for our beach event!  it is just amazing how there is actually still rain available to fall out of the sky but i guess i don’t really understand the whole weather stuff anyway.

so, looking forward to seeing everyone in two weeks!
